Anyone who follows the Weight Watchers program but hankers after peanut butter will remember the disappointment of discovering just how many SmartPoints there are in a single serving of delicious creamy (or crunchy!) yummy peanut butter.

Urgh! I was so disappointed!

How could a tablespoon be quite so many points!

And to think that prior to following the WW program, I used to mindlessly eat it out of the jar with a spoon 😀

Powdered Peanut Butters & Weight Watchers

When I began following the Weight Watchers plan many years ago, powdered peanut butter wasn't really a thing! You had to search far and wide to find it or you had to order it off specialist protein websites.

Things have changed and it is now quite commonplace - you can buy some of the bigger brands in food stores like Walmart & Target and many 'health food stores' now stock a wide range of brands.

And the good news is that powdered peanut butters work out relatively low in SmartPoints.

To make up the powders into a spreadable butter you are usually instructed to mix with a small amount of water until you reach the desired consistency.

However, I have heard that some people prefer to mix it with zero fat natural yogurt for a more creamy consistency.

Others add a little sweetener or honey for sweetness or a little salt to add a bit more depth.

Why not experiment and find a way that suits your taste best!

Of course some people just don't like the powdered peanut butters and yearn for a lower point peanut butter spread.

Traditional Peanut Butters & Weight Watchers

Unfortunately, traditional peanut butters are much higher in SmartPoints than the powdered varieties.

I have listed a number of spreads below that range from 5 SmartPoints per 2 tablespoons to 7 SmartPoints per 2 tablespoons.

Some of them are flavored, some of them are 'plain', some are crunchy and some are smooth.

All are delicious!

How I worked out the SmartPoints

I worked out the SmartPoints for each of these peanut butters in the Best Peanut Butters for Weight Watchers by inputting the nutritional information into the official WW calculator.

The SmartPoints are correct at the times of writing (September 2020)

Powdered Peanut Butter | 1 SmartPoint

Powdered peanut butters are a good alternative to the traditional spread as most are very low in SmartPoints!

They are now relatively easy to find in larger food stores and health food shops.

They are also available to buy from Amazon.

PB2, probably the best known and most widely available of the powdered peanut butters, is 1 SmartPoint for 2 tbsp (13g). It can be purchased from most large food stores such as Walmart & Target and can also be ordered through Amazon.

Lakanto Peanut Butter Powder is naturally sweetened with monkfruit. It is vegan friendly and suitable for people on a gluten free diet. It works out at 1 SmartPoint for 2 tbsp (12g). It is sweeter than many of the other PB powders and is available to order from Amazon and from the Lakanto web site.

Tru-Nut Powdered Peanut Butter works out at 1 SmartPoint for 2 tbsp (12g). It is gluten free and suitable for anyone following a vegan diet. As well as the original flavour they also do a chocolate flavored and coconut flavored peanut butter powder. It is available to order from Amazon and also from the Tru-Nut website.

Powdered Peanut Butter | 2 SmartPoints

Most of the peanut butter powders work out at 1 SmartPoint for 2 tablespoons of powder.

However, there are a few that work out at 2 SmartPoints for 2 tablespoons.

PB2's powdered peanut butter with cocoa works out at 2 SmartPoints for 2 tbsp (13g) as it has a higher sugar content than the original flavor. It is a little more difficult to find than the original flavor but can be purchased from Amazon.

Peanut Butter Spreads | 5 SmartPoints

I have found a couple of Peanut Butter Spreads that work out at 5 SmartPoints for 2 tablespoons.

Unfortunately, at the time of writing this it looks like Jif have discontinued their very popular whipped peanut butter .... hey, don't shoot the messenger!

However, these 2 brands do have a lower SmartPoint value than the majority of other peanut butter spreads currently available.

Peter Pan Whipped Creamy Peanut Butter works out at 5 SmartPoints per 2 tbsp (24g). This is a couple of SmartPoints less than the Peter Pan non whipped variety so is a good option if you're not keen on the powdered peanut butters but are looking for a lower point PB. It is available from some food stores such as Walmart, from the Peter Pan website or from Amazon.

The Nuts 'N More brand is fast becoming popular with people following the WW plan. As well as developing this peanut spread which works out at 5 SmartPoints for 2 tbsp (33g) they have developed a number of tasty flavored peanut butter spreads (see more flavors below!). This plain peanut butter is available to buy on the Nuts 'N More website and also from Amazon.

Peanut Butter Spreads | 6 SmartPoints

Generally speaking, most peanut butter spreads work out at 6 SmartPoints per 2 tablespoons.

Serving sizes on the tubs tend to be per 2 tablespoons (32g - 33g) so this is why I have shown the SmartPoint values for 2 tablespoons.

On some of the brands I have also included the SmartPoint value for a 1 tablespoon serving.

On the brands that I haven't given the value for a 1 tablespoon serving I'd suggest that you check on your WW app before assuming that 1 tablespoon would be half the SmartPoints of 2 tablespoons!

PBfit have recently launched a protein peanut butter spread that works out at 6 SmartPoint per 2 tbsp (32g). It is very high in protein - 42% more than traditional peanut butters and is available to purchase direct from the Better Bodies website or online from Amazon.
